On Saturday MS Dhoni announced his retirement from all forms of cricket. The announcement brings end to the glorious career of India’s most successful cricket captain.
Dhoni announced his retirement from Test Cricket in the year 2014 and has played 350 one day internationals and 98 T20’s.
Dhoni’s T shirt number is 7 and he is the 5th Indian cricketer to cross 10,000 runs in ODIs with an average of 50.53. He made his debut in 2004 against Bangladesh. Dhoni joined the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly, Kumar Sangakkara, Brian Lara and Sanath Jayasuriya on the elite list.
Dhoni is the only player to win ICC player of the year twice during his illustrious career. An avid biker, Dhoni has a collection of 23 bikes and counting. Dhoni is also a member of Indian army holding the title of Lt Colonel. The rank was conferred on him by Indian Territorial Army in 2011.
Under Dhoni’s captaincy, India lifted the 50-over World Cup in 2011 and the World Twenty20 in 2007. Dhoni also led India to the ICC Champions Trophy triumph in 2013 in England.
He is regarded as India’s most successful captains with 27 test victories and 160+ ODI victories. He used to work as a TTE before joining the Indian cricket team.
