My Vande Bharat Flight from Amsterdam to Delhi
Nation Now TV July 27, 2020
Since the worldwide outbreak of Covid19 in February this year, lot of people around the world got stuck where they were and it became a very long wait for such people to meet their families back home. I am one of them, I work in Amsterdam and my family was suppose to fly to Amsterdam from India on March 29 but Indian government announced nationwide lock down on March 23. I and my family were stuck, miles apart from each other in an uncertain environment.
The lock down journey was extremely tough but work from home kept me busy and occupied. The video calls kept me connected with my friends and family and my fitness regime kept me active through out the lock down.
There are lot of Indians in Amsterdam, not all of them felt stuck as Amsterdam offers a good quality of life and amazing weather. Even I enjoyed the beautiful weather and good food through out the lock down, it made it easy to sail through. We created a whatsapp group for Indians who want to fly back from Amsterdam for various reasons, some of them had even lost their jobs and wanted to come back to India. Indian government announced Vande Bharat mission which brought hope to all such Indians who desperately wanted to fly back to India.
The process was registering was quite simple, you just had to register with the Indian embassy and they will put you on the flying list and then you have to wait for your turn. I registered at a very early stage but wanted the situation to become normal in India before flying back, but that did not happen, in fact India went into lock down with few hundred cases and the lock down was lifted when cases mushroomed all over the Indian states. I made up my mind as my mother has a surgery planned this year and I was away from my son for almost 4 months.
I finally managed to get an Air India ticket and landed in Delhi in the morning at 4 am. The immigration and all the other clearances took almost 8 hours but I guess its OK in such crisis situation. I am at home now, obviously home quarantined for 14 days. The experience of travelling during pandemic was a challenging one and the zeal to meet my family kept me strong and motivated.
Name of the person is not disclosed due to safety reasons.
